| Il ne m’a pas fallu attendre mes 50 ans avant d’être appelé vieux ici! Heureusement que le terme est synonyme de respect! Mais voilà, je suis entré dans la deuxième moitié de ma décennie. La vie est courte. Il y a beaucoup d’incertitude et d’inquiétude dans le monde. Mais le Dieu que j’adore est vivant, il est puissant et il se soucie de moi! Mon avenir est entre ses mains. Je ne crains rien. Pour mon anniversaire, Rebecca et sa famille m’ont acheté un kayak gonflable 2 places qu’on a pu tester à Poé. Ce premier essai a été une belle occasion d’aller plus loin dans ce magnifique lagon et voir à nouveau les poissons et le corail. Après avoir gagné en maitrise, on va pouvoir partir à l’aventure et visiter de nouveaux lieux, tout en restant prudent et ne pas s’éloigner des côtes bien sûre. | I didn’t have to wait until 50 before being called ‘old’ here! Fortunately, the term here is synonymous with respect rather than age per se! But here I am. I’ve entered the second half of my century. Life is short and filled with much uncertainty concerning the world. But the God I worship is alive and powerful, and He cares about me! My future is in His hands. I don’t need to fear. For my birthday, Rebecca and her family bought me a two seater kayak that we were able to test at Poé. The first trial was a good opportunity to go further out in this beautiful lagoon and see fish and coral again. Once we will be more confident in handling it, we will be able to go on adventures to new places, while still staying cautious not to go too far out of course!! |
| Octobre est aussi le mois où l’Eglise Evangélique Libre se rassemble pour fêter la Réformation et le travail de l’Evangile en Nouvelle Calédonie. Cette année cela s’est fait sur le terrain de l’école pastorale sur la côte Est qui fête aussi ses 40 ans d’existence. La journée a été plutôt très chargée avec un départ aux aurores et un retour la nuit tombée. Mais c’était une belle journée de retrouvailles et d’encouragements. Selon l’habitude, il y a une dimension historique à l’évènement et cette année on a raconté le lancement du projet de la formation lors du synode de 1978 à Ouvéa. Cela a abouti à l’école pastorale de l’église libre où je participe à la formation. | October is also the time when the Free Evangelical Church has their yearly gathering to celebrate the reformation and the work of the gospel in New Caledonia. This year it was celebrated on the East Coast on the Pastoral College grounds. The college is also celebrating its 40th anniversary. The day was rather packed with an early rise and a late return. But is was a day of encouragements and catching up with friends. As usual, there was a historical dimension to the event with the recounting of how the College came to be starting at the church council at Ouvea in 1978. This is the college that I am helping out from time to time in the training of the pastors for the Free Church. |
